[edit] Critical reaction

The critical reaction for Californication has been generally favourable, with a rating of 72 on Metacritic.[4]. However a handful of critics have been mixed or extremely negative.

  • "Sexy, funny, original – and the best new show on TV in way too long..." — Chicago Sun-Times [5]
  • "A hilariously dissolute downward spiral of sex, drugs, booze and more sex." — Miami Herald [6]
  • "The show is sexy, profane and darkly funny..." — Newsweek [7]
  • "Californication is red hot." — TV Blogger [8]
  • "David Duchovny's talents are wasted in this new dark comedy that's neither smart nor funny. He plays a writer trying to win back his ex, but has sex with multiple partners in the first episode alone. The show tries to be salacious and cool, but even for cable, the sex and language are gratuitous." — In Touch Weekly [citation needed]
