Happy Feet is a computer-animated film, directed by George Miller. Due for the U.S. release on November 17, 2006, it is being produced at Sydney-based visual effects and animation studio Animal Logic for Warner Bros and Village Roadshow Pictures. This will be the first animated feature film produced by Animal Logic. It stars the voices of Elijah Wood, Brittany Murphy, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman and Robin Williams and co-stars the voices of Anthony LaPaglia, Hugo Weaving, Miriam Margolyes, D.B. Sweeney.
The film will be simultaneously released in both conventional theatres and in IMAX 3D format. [1]
Plot
Set in Antarctica, the musical epic follows the adventures of an emperor penguin called Mumble, who has an unusual gift for dance. Like their real-life counterparts, each penguin has the ability to sing a unique "heart song", a talent that Mumble severely lacks. His preference for tap dance leads to his ostracism from his community and to encounters with other varieties of Antarctic Wildlife.
Due to the faithful representation of the life of emperor penguins, many sequences and plot devices in the film are similar to those in the highly successful French documentary La Marche de l'empereur (aka March of the Penguins), released in 2005. Despite the similarities, both films were in production before details of either were announced. Happy Feet was more likely inspired by earlier documentaries such as the BBC's Life in the Freezer (as well as the popular standard of the same name).
Soundtrack
The teaser trailer stars a hatchling emperor penguin dancing to the Stevie Wonder song I Wish. It appears on the March of the Penguins DVD and has been screened in IMAX 3D.
The song featured in the 2nd teaser trailer [2] is entitled Jump 'n Move by The Brand New Heavies featuring Jamal-ski. [3]
The third trailer for the film features Robin Williams performing the song "My Way" in Spanish. [4]
